The WasItAI Browser Extension ("we", "our", "us") connects your browser to your WasItAI account, allowing you to submit images for AI image detection. This Privacy Policy explains what information the extension collects, how it is used, and how it is protected.
By using the WasItAI Browser Extension, you agree to the collection and use of information as described in this policy.
1. Information We Collect
Information you provide:
- Your WasItAI API key, which you enter in the extension settings to authenticate with the service.
- Images that you explicitly choose to analyse using the extension.
- Support messages or other communications you send us.
Information collected automatically:
- Your IP address.
- Browser and operating system information.
- API usage information such as request counts, timestamps, and error reports.
The extension does not collect your browsing history or monitor the websites you visit. Images are only submitted when you explicitly request an analysis.
2. How We Use Your Information
- To authenticate your WasItAI account via your API key.
- To process image analysis requests and return AI detection results.
- To display results directly in your browser.
- To monitor service reliability and prevent abuse.
- To improve the performance and security of the service.
We do not sell your personal data to third parties.
3. Third-Party Services
The extension communicates only with WasItAI services (api.wasitai.com and dashboard.wasitai.com) to authenticate your account and process image analysis requests. No image data or personal information is sent to any other third party by the extension.
If you purchase a WasItAI subscription through our website, payment processing is handled by Lemon Squeezy under its own Privacy Policy. The extension itself does not process payments.
4. Image Processing
Images are submitted only when you explicitly request an analysis by clicking the extension's hover button or using the browser context menu.
Submitted images are processed solely to generate an AI detection result. Images are not stored beyond the time required to complete the request and are not shared with third parties or used to train our models without your explicit consent.
Detection results are probabilistic estimates based on statistical analysis. They are not definitive determinations and should not be used as the sole basis for legal, professional, academic, or other consequential decisions.
5. Local Storage
The extension stores the following data locally in your browser using the browser's built-in storage API:
- Your API key (to avoid re-entering it on every browser session).
- Extension settings such as the hover button toggle, result display timeout, and blocked sites list.
- A local cache of recent classification results (image URL and verdict) so that previously checked images display their result instantly on re-hover, without sending a new request.
This data remains on your device and is not transmitted to our servers except as part of normal API requests.
6. Log Data
Our servers automatically record technical information necessary to operate and secure the service. This may include your IP address, browser version, timestamps, request information, and error reports. Log data is retained for security and debugging purposes and is deleted after 90 days.
7. Data Retention
Account information is retained while your WasItAI account remains active.
If you delete your account, your personal data is removed from our systems within 30 days, except where a longer retention period is required by law.
Local extension data (API key, settings, result cache) can be cleared at any time by uninstalling the extension or clearing your browser's extension storage.
8. Your Rights
Depending on your jurisdiction, including under the GDPR for residents of the European Economic Area, you may have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you.
- Request correction or deletion of your data.
- Object to or restrict certain processing.
- Request a portable copy of your data.

9. Security
All communication between the extension and WasItAI servers uses HTTPS encryption. Your API key is stored locally using the browser's secure extension storage API. We apply industry-standard access controls on our servers. However, no method of transmission over the Internet can guarantee absolute security.
10. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected by updating the effective date below. Continued use of the extension after changes become effective constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
